The Basics of Carpeted Flooring
Of all the different styles of flooring available, from carpet to stone tile to hardwood, you decided to choose carpet as the new flooring in your home. Carpet has a rich history, but wasn’t typically used as an interior floor covering in Europe until the 18th century. Since then, people have come to realize that carpet is soft and comfortable. Today, especially with the new advances in stain resistant treatments, it is relatively easy to maintain. Carpet will no doubt make your home warm and inviting to visitors, and you and your family will enjoy all it has to offer as well.
One of the benefits of carpeting your home is that carpet is believed to capture dust mites, pet dander, and other irritants. This keeps irritants and possible allergens from floating around your room. However, if left in the carpet for too long, these mites and allergens can be harmful; this is one of the reasons carpets need regular care and vacuuming. With this proper care, carpet will be a warm, comfortable addition to any room.
There are many other benefits to carpeting your home. For instance, carpet is a mostly non-slip surface (when compared with hardwood) and will provide a somewhat cushioned landing area in case of a fall. Carpet also acts as insulation and warms the room it’s in. In addition, it reduces sound by dampening noise, is relatively economical, and is durable enough to outlast many other types of available flooring.
The most common type of carpet on the market is called tufted carpet. You will likely end up purchasing a tufted carpet, but don’t let that worry you – even though it’s the most common carpet available, there are still a lot of options available to make it fit your room! Tufted carpet comes in solid colors, merged colors, or an eclectic variety of colors in a specific pattern or random arrangement. In addition, there are also various constructions of tufted carpet available. You can choose from cut pile, level loop pile, or cut and loop pile construction when picking out your carpet.
As with any purchase you plan to make, be sure you shop around for the most competitive price when you shop for carpet. Even though tufted carpet is the most common and is often readily available, prices will vary and you should be sure that you are getting the best deal. You may even be interested in purchasing discount carpet. Don’t think that because it’s labeled as “discount” that it’s not as good as the full-priced carpet; in fact, discounted carpet is usually discounted because either it’s a remnant, it’s from the end of the roll, or it’s part of a discontinued product line. If you choose to purchase discounted carpet, be sure you check a few things out first. Be sure that the carpet has passed its inspection. Also, you will want to check and see if the warranty on the carpet is still available (and be sure to look into the outlet’s return policy as well).
